Stratus ES 2.5 V6
| ||Model of the car:||Stratus ES 2.5 V6|
| ||General comments:||My dad lent me the Stratus as my daily driver shortly after I turned 16. The car had 50,000 miles on it, and a great track record for NOT having any costly mechanical problems. The car was great for high school. Very roomy backseat, ample room in the front as well. With the 2.5, it had a great pick up, and put most of my friends loaner cars to shame (aka Ford Contour, Nissan Maxima, Acura Integra, Ford Taurus). Those other cars were just base models, but still, the Stratus could stay with similarly priced midsizes and compacts. |
The car was always reliable, up until about 64,000 miles. That's when things on it started to need replacement; power steering pump, belts, hoses, other minor things. Mechanical stuff that didn't drain too much out of the bank account (except for the power steering pump).
After longer drives (2 hours and up), the front seats became quite uncomfortable, and the backseat didn't feel too great either. Even with the lumbar support for the driver's seat, it still got painful. Wind noise was pretty bad, too. Bearable, but after 3 hours of it, you're ready to make a pitstop. Just have the radio up for long drives with it.
Now the car is at 72,000 miles, and after it's 70,000 mile tune-up, the starter went out. THAT wasn't cheap. You'll notice that it's gone out when you keep blowing the fuse for the ignition
| ||What things have gone wrong with the car:||Looks kinda dorky after awhile, after 65,000 miles expect to be taking it to the shop. Wind noise, uncomfortable seats on long drives. Transmission has a noticeable lag from 1st to 2nd, and struggles sometimes to downshift from 3rd to 2nd (only on hills, though).|
